A habilidade combina três eixos: conteúdo (fatos e personalidades), organização (sequência temporal) e língua (passado simples e marcadores de tempo como in 1977 ou first, then, finally).

A community radio station invited teenagers to record a 60-second audio about a person from the past who made a difference. Ana wrote this draft for her recording:

“Today I am telling a short story about Wangari Maathai. She grew up in Kenya and loved nature. After studying abroad, she returned home and noticed that many hills were becoming dry and brown. She worried because families needed water, food, and shade. ________. Little by little, neighbors started to talk, copy the idea, and work together. Years later, in 2004, she received a famous peace prize. When I remember her story, I think one voice can start a big change.”

Identify the sentence that best completes Ana’s oral narrative, keeping the past events in a clear and logical sequence.

  • ❌ A) In the late 1970s, she invented a machine to cut more trees and sell the wood.
  • ❌ B) In the late 1970s, she received the peace prize and then started helping her neighbors.
  • ✅ C) In the late 1970s, she organized local women to plant trees and protect the land.
  • ❌ D) In the late 1970s, she will organize women to plant trees and care for them. — Erro de tempo verbal: “will organize” indica futuro, mas a narrativa relata fatos passados.
  • ❌ E) In the late 1970s, she moved abroad to begin her studies for the first time.

“Start with a clear timeline, not a list of dates,” said the museum educator to students preparing a short audio guide. Their topic is Katherine Johnson, a mathematician whose work supported U.S. space missions. The students received these notes: Johnson joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in 1953. In 1962, astronaut John Glenn asked her to check the computer calculations for his Mercury flight. Many years later, in 2015, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Each student must record an oral introduction that presents these past events in a logical order.

Create a suitable opening for the audio guide by selecting the sentence that organizes Katherine Johnson’s past events clearly.

  • ❌ A) Katherine Johnson joined NASA after the Mercury flight because John Glenn gave her an honor. — Causal error: the text states that Glenn requested her work before the flight, and the later honor was not given by him.
  • ✅ B) Katherine Johnson joined NACA in 1953, checked a Mercury trajectory in 1962, and later received a national honor. — Correct: it uses past-tense verbs and presents the events in the chronological order provided in the text.
  • ❌ C) Katherine Johnson checks Mercury paths in 1953 and receives the national honor in 1962. — Tense and date error: the narrative is about past events, and both dates are incorrectly associated with the actions.
  • ❌ D) Katherine Johnson joined NACA in 1962 and made computers calculate the Mercury flight route. — Fact and agency error: she joined NACA in 1953 and checked computer calculations; she did not make computers calculate.
  • ❌ E) Katherine Johnson received a national honor before she joined NACA and checked a Mercury trajectory. — Chronology error: it reverses the sequence, since the honor came many years after her work at NACA.

A museum recording tells visitors about Katherine Johnson, a mathematician. In 1953, she started working at NACA, a US aeronautics agency. Her job included checking flight paths. In 1958, NASA replaced NACA. Before the 1962 Friendship 7 mission, astronaut John Glenn requested that Johnson check the computer's flight calculations. The mission orbited Earth and returned safely. For a student-led audio guide, each speaker must tell these events as a short oral story, showing what happened first and what happened later. One student needs a final sentence to connect Johnson's early work with her role in the mission.

Analyze the timeline in the recording and identify the sentence that best completes the student's oral narrative about Johnson's work.

  • ❌ A) Her work focused only on the flight after it returned.
  • ✅ B) Her work began with flight paths and later supported a space mission.
  • ❌ C) Her work focused on building computers for the spacecraft.
  • ❌ D) Her work began after the space mission and later supported NACA.
  • ❌ E) Her work ended when NACA changed and never reached NASA.

“Should our audio guide begin with the award?” Leo asked. His partner was preparing a one-minute oral story about Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan activist. Their research cards showed that Maathai studied biology before creating the Green Belt Movement in 1977. The movement encouraged women to plant trees in their communities. In 2004, she received the Nobel Peace Prize. The students needed to use past forms and organize the facts so that museum visitors could understand how Maathai’s earlier actions came before her international recognition.

Identify the script that best turns the research cards into a clear oral narrative for museum visitors.

  • ✅ A) First, Maathai studied biology; then she started the movement; finally, she received the Nobel Prize.
  • ❌ B) First, Maathai started the movement; then she received the Nobel Prize; finally, she studied biology.
  • ❌ C) First, Maathai studies biology; then she starts the movement; finally, she receives the Nobel Prize.
  • ❌ D) First, Maathai received the Nobel Prize; then she studied biology; finally, she started the movement.
  • ❌ E) First, Maathai studied biology; then she received the Nobel Prize; finally, she started the movement.

Conceito central: uso do passado e organização cronológica.

Before telling the story of the city’s 100th anniversary, Ana organizes her ideas with three questions: When did it happen? Where did it happen? Who saw it? She will use the answers to make her oral narrative clear.

Which group of information answers the three questions and is essential for Ana’s oral narrative?

  • ❌ A) The title, the picture and the narrator’s opinion. — This option focuses on presentation and personal opinion, but does not answer when, where or who saw the event.
  • ❌ B) The beginning, the problem and the ending. — This option describes parts of a plot, not the factual information requested by the three questions.
  • ❌ C) The characters, their feelings and their dialogue. — These elements may enrich a story, but they do not provide the three factual details requested in the text-base.
  • ❌ D) The weather, the clothes and the food. — These details can describe the situation, but they do not identify the date, the place and the witnesses.
  • ✅ E) The date, the place and the witnesses. — A clear narrative about an event must identify when it happened, where it happened and who witnessed it. These elements answer the three questions in the text-base.

Conceito central: narrativa oral.

Last year, our town celebrated its 100th anniversary. The celebration included a big parade. Many people watched the parade in the streets.

Imagine that you are telling this event aloud to a classmate. Which sentence best retells the complete main event, including when and how it happened?

  • ✅ A) Last year, our town celebrated its 100th anniversary with a big parade. — A resposta correta compõe uma narrativa oral curta e completa: informa quando o fato aconteceu (last year), qual foi o evento principal (the town celebrated its 100th anniversary) e como ele aconteceu (with a big parade).
  • ❌ B) Last year, our town celebrated a big parade for its 100th anniversary.
  • ❌ C) Last year, many people watched our town celebrate its 100th anniversary.
  • ❌ D) Last year, our town celebrated its 100th anniversary.
  • ❌ E) Our town celebrated its 100th anniversary with a big parade.

Conceito central: evento principal.
